// Catharine Saxberg - Executive Director, Canadian Music Publishers Association
Catharine Saxberg has been the executive director of the Canadian Music Publishers Association since May of 2005, where she has been focused on expanding the profile for music publishers both domestically and internationally, their issues and their value to the music industry. Catharine represents publishers and their interests on the FACTOR National Advisory Board, the music section of the Cultural Human Resources Council, and the Music Café Committee for the Toronto International Film Festival. Prior to that, she was the executive director of the Radio Starmaker Fund, where, as part of the overall responsibility for the day to day management of the fund, she guided the expansion of the fund to include international touring and marketing programmes, and prepared policy recommendations for the Board of Directors. Catharine also worked as a consultant for the Canadian Country Music Association, executing an extensive research project of their members, and writing eight policy papers on their behalf on issues of key importance to the music industry.
Catharine’s experience before working primarily for the music industry was in content development, strategic planning, marketing and research for the broadcast industry, where she worked in progressively senior positions for over twenty years for a number of major broadcasters. She has also worked as a media executive for a major international advertising agency, and has taught at the Harris Institute of the Arts for the past nine years.
Catharine has demonstrated a keen understanding and interest in issues of board governance and process for non-profit organizations, both within her professional life, and volunteer work outside of the music industry, and is known for a management style that is both consultative and decisive. She can also function effectively in both official languages.
Catharine holds an undergraduate degree from Ryerson University in radio and television arts, an honours BA (double major of history and English literature) and a masters degree in cultural history from the University of Toronto, and did her doctoral studies in cultural history at York University.
